Thirty years after Jim Lett started his company, fenestration products remain the focus for A.B.E. Doors & Windows. In that time Lett, a student of best business practices, has put together “a great team” that can run the operation without his having to be on the premises.

That’s given him the leeway to serve as an officer with associations, sit on boards, even meet with Congress members regarding lead-safe renovation rules by the EPA. Last year he appeared as an expert on that same subject on Fox Business News. His major concern? That lead-safe renovation regulations were unfairly tilted against small businesses.

“I wish more people would take an active role,” Lett says. “We don’t have the money or personnel to lobby Washington. We have to do it ourselves.”
