After serving the San Francisco remodeling market for more than 12 years, Pav and Lynn Wilkinson decided it was time to try something new. Pav, who graduated with a degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and had lived in California his entire life, was looking for a bit of an adventure. So in 2003 the couple moved Wilkinson Design & Construction to Cape Cod, and their impact on the local market was immediate.

“We had been very active in NARI in San Francisco,” says Lyn, who was vice president of her local chapter in the Bay Area.

Shortly after their arrival, the couple helped found the Cape Cod chapter. “At one time Pav was the only CR in Cape Cod,” she adds, noting that that has changed since their NARI chapter began offering certification courses.

The company targets upscale, second-home clients by advertising heavily in local theater bills and making sure its Web site address is included on all advertising materials. “We have a great logo, and we really try to use it to build brand awareness,” Lyn adds.

Design work done for other remodelers accounted for more than a third of the company's 2006 revenue, a trend that the Wilkinsons would like to see continue in 2007.
