Anthony Wizner, owner of A.B.A. Construction, took over his father's business nearly 30 years ago. “‘Whatever you do,' my father said, ‘make sure you do it better than anyone else,'” Wizner says. “And ‘keep your word and make sure you get paid,'” he adds with a laugh.
Wizner followed that advice, growing the original roofing and siding business into a successful full-scale, high-end home remodeling company with a 90% client referral rate. “People are going to talk,” he says. “You might as well give them something good to talk about.”
A.B.A.'s mission and vision statement reflect this attitude, pledging work that is on time, on budget, profitable, and that creates raving-fan clients and employees.
Good to his word, Wizner has many fans who he connects with on a regular basis — whether through a “Do you know?” letter when seeking a new hire, or by hosting charity events such as his annual pig roast. Two years ago he took his entire team, plus vendors and clients, on a bus tour of eight projects so that each person could see how their job fits into the big picture.
