Westhill's focus has always been providing professional service with a personal touch. Says owner Charles Russell (front row, center), “Our philosophy is to live customer satisfaction and customer service.” Westhill's efforts have paid off: It recently won the Oregon and Southwest Washington Better Business Bureau's 2005 Small Business of the Year Award for Customer Service.
About 80% of Westhill's work is in remodeling and additions, the rest is in custom homes. That's a good balance for the Seattle-metro area remodeler, who runs Westhill with an executive management team of five.
This team is highly involved in company planning, attending monthly meetings to review goals, and a yearly three-day retreat to define budget goals, discuss gross and net profit projections, and strengthen communications. “This is the best team of individuals I've ever worked with. It's a group of people that puts teamwork first,” Russell says. His son, Chuck Russell, operations manager, will be taking over the business someday. They are working on an exit strategy for the senior Russell, but it's hard to leave a business that he loves.
