Back in 1991, Joycelyn Schaffhausen, the owner of the House of Dreams, came up with the idea of creating a year round home show in the office building they own. Joycelyn, and her son Mark, showcased dozens of local home and garden related companies. Customers loved the idea, but they also wanted someone to complete actual projects.

House of Dreams has a design/project management team that takes on a range of projects from countertop replacements to $300,000 additions. The nine designers work together or individually to take a project from design to estimating to scheduling subs.

Mark Schaffhausen (sixth from left) says clients and subcontractors really like having one person heading up the entire project. “Customers develop a close relationship with our staff and know their project will be built as discussed and designed. Our subs are involved in the design stage, often walking through the site with our designers,” Schaffhausen says.

For larger projects, two or three designers team up. Schaffhausen recently remodeled the showroom to have more product selections under one roof. He also plans to host events with seminars by local remodeling experts.
