For more than 40 years, Greg Heiman (second from right) has lived in the border area between Kansas and Missouri, and for the past 20 years he has been working in that same location. His knowledge of the region and its inhabitants gives him an edge in business. “Our longevity and the fact that we live in the community we work in help set us apart from our competition,” Heiman says. The community has a small-town feel, and Heiman plays it just right. “I'm not afraid to remodel my neighbor's house,” he says. “I'm not afraid to run into a guy at a ballgame or a movie. I do fair work for fair value, and our repeat business tells us we know what we're doing.”
About 60% of Heiman's work is commercial — medical offices for the most part — and 40% is residential design/build. Heiman is looking to diversify. Recently the company took on building management, and Heiman hopes to buy buildings to manage.
