In 1989, Bob Peterson and his wife, Rita, worked for the same design/build firm when it shut its doors — leaving them both jobless on the same day. Within a year they had put together a plan, got a loan, and opened for business. They started out winning trust by finishing the jobs their former employer left dangling. “There was no way I was going to leave a lady without a kitchen,” Bob says. “Not when I sold the project.”

Since then, Bob and Rita have played to their strengths — he's a builder and she's the designer — to create a firm that does everything from building to finishing to furnishing, including things like choosing artwork and window coverings, which Bob will install. They work well as a team, and outside of the residential remodeling, the design division brings in a large portion of ABD's revenue.
