Sharon (second from left) and Jeff Rainey (far left) have a flair for building networks -- both the computer and people kind.
Together, they helped develop the first Web site for the Washington, D.C., Metro Chapter of NARI, where they have both served as officers. Jeff is in his sixth year as an instructor for three NARI certification programs. And after a couple of dormant years, the e-mail network they started once again serves as a resource to NARI members, who use it to pass on job referrals, find new subs, or just commiserate about common problems.
But the Raineys' reach doesn't stop there. The 22-member Remodelers Information Technology Group, which they founded five years ago, meets monthly to educate each other and the local remodeling community about changing technologies. And their newest e-mail effort, called the FYI Network, links not just remodelers but friends and neighbors in the Great Falls community where Home Equity Builders does all its work.
All this involvement is good marketing, but that doesn't really have much to do with it. "We have a strong propensity for giving back," Jeff says. "You don't get unless you give."
