Last year, they saw 30% growth and better margins on the remodeling side, but they keep a hand in the property management and custom home business so they're ready if the market shifts.
The remodeling projects come from area white-collar executives, many middle aged, who are focusing on upscale projects that average $200,000 to $400,000. The duo uses four-color brochures and postcards to accurately target homeowners. They like the theory of duplicating efficient systems, similar to what McDonald's does with fast food. But, Kirkpatrick says, remodeling has many inefficiencies, so systems must allow for flexibility for individual clients and projects.
