Bob McKay, owner of McKay Building Company, knows what he does best: The jobs he prefers are kitchens, baths, and interior alterations that don't require him to work outside the footprint of the house.
Three years ago McKay's wife, Jewel, retired from her job as a registered nurse and came into McKay Building Co. full time. Her help enabled McKay to spend more time running the company and also to devote more time to his involvement in professional organizations. McKay has served as chairman of both the state and local Remodelors Councils and currently serves on the board of the local Home Builders Association. His company has been selected Remodeler of the Year by home builder associations at both the state and local levels. In 2005 he will be president of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders.
