ServiceMagic, an online service that matches consumers with registered contractors and home service professionals —recently announced the winners of its first “Best in Business” awards. (Hanley Wood, the company that publishes REMODELING, has an investment interest in ServiceMagic.)
The 12 winners were selected on the basis of the “Customer Ratings & Reviews” feature of the ServiceMagic Web site. Consumers rate companies on a scale of one to five, grading them on everything from courteousness to value. The dozen winners averaged a score of 4.7 overall.
“These 12 member businesses have gone above and beyond to take care of ServiceMagic homeowners,” Michael Beaudoin, co-CEO of ServiceMagic, said in a press release.
Three of the winners — White River Construction and Remodeling, Lynwood, Wash.; HomeWorks Home Improvements, Rochester Hills, Mich.; and Guaranteed Home Improvements, Pamplin, Va. — are remodeling companies. Other honorees among the 12 include landscapers, architects, and concrete contractors.
In 2005, ServiceMagic is again planning to give out 12 awards. However, rather than doing it at the end of the year, they'll give out one award per month.
