Plenty of Slow Patch chatter out there today, including some talking about a Slower Slow Patch. But not everything is pointing down. Dr. Copper has stirred in the past few weeks, not that anyone would notice. Markets tend to move in herds, and the herd has become fixated on the Slow Patch. Each data report gets interpreted through a lens of darkness. Words like “grim” and “this isn’t good” pepper commentary. In this frame of mind, potentially countervailing notions are overlooked. Which brings us back to Dr. Copper, named so because its predictive qualities give it a Ph.D in economics.
